Great Pyramids of Giza
The most famous Egyptian pyramids to be built are the Great Pyramids of Giza, located in the outskirts of present-day Cairo. There are over 100 Egyptian pyramids of various sizes, and over 50 more in neighboring Sudan. However, the three Great Pyramids of Giza earn their fame by being the largest of these.
In the most popular pictures of the Pyramids of Giza, like the one shown below,
the middle pyramid, that of Khafre (Chephren), appears larger due to the angle and
because it was built on higher ground. The largest pyramid is actually the Great
Pyramid of Khufu...

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina – is it a Family or Golfers Vacation Destination
The Vacation Season is fast approaching and naturally you will be taking your digital
camera along for the journey. After all your vacations are far and few between and it
is nice to look back on those memories as you slave away at your job. However, when
you travel with a digital camera, it is a completely different experience from that of
traveling with a film camera. This is a lesson that far too many travelers seem to be
learning the hard way, especially if you’re traveling to Europe. After a couples years
of relying mostly on digital for taking photos when I travel, there are things you
should consider before you head off on your next trip...
Ms. Alida Pageant – Free At Last in Suriname, South America
Before a slave woman ran away into the jungle from an eighteenth-century Suriname sugar plantation, she wove rice into her hair so that she would have something to plant. Under her breasts and her skirts she hid a piece of cloth, a kitchen knife, some thread or a spoon -anything of practical use that she could successfully carry away into an unknown new life fraught with uncertainty and danger. (Photo above: Miss Alida 2003 is Joan Dogojo.)
This was a time referred to by historians as "the golden age of Suriname" because of
the wealth exported in the form of sugar, coffee, cotton, tobacco and timber.
Plantation life under Dutch colonial rule was hideous for black men, women, and
children. The Dutch were such cruel slave masters that, to keep their own...
Ms. Alida Pageant – Free At Last in Suriname, South America
A blazing sun, a cool breeze, and soft white sand create the perfect prelude to evenings that are cued for love, as if someone had orchestrated the brilliant full moon featuring Venus just below and to the right. Intricate constellations glisten above as the ocean pushes and pulls in its rush to high tide, wrapped in the fragrant aroma of profuse Bougainvillea, Frangipani, and Ginger Lily blossoms on the romantic island of Barbados.
Set entirely upon a bed of coral rock and limestone from which many of the island's
buildings are erected, Barbados, home to some 270,000 Bajans, is the most eastern of
the Lesser Antilles. At a scant 24 miles long and 14 miles wide, this tropical
paradise has a treasure trove of romantic escapes from which you will be eager to
explore your most passionate dreams. Elegant resorts and private...
Lodging With Llamas in the Smokies
Folklore and whispering stories of adventure and mystery are as deep as the hills around the small Smoky Mountain towns. There have been legends born and heroes die, all carried by word of mouth and each telling, grander and larger than life tales, such as the story of Fines Creek.
A man by the name of Fines, not told to me as his first or last name, simply by Fines, traveled the Smokies of North Carolina and Tennessee several times during the1800s. During one of his journeys, Fines was robbed of his horses by a local band of indians.
Fines, along with his group of men, forcefully retrieved their horses and set up camp
along a creek deep in the mountains....
Mohican County Rambles in Ohio
On our drive along I-71 to the Mohican State Park Resort and Conference Center in
North-Central Ohio, near Loudonville, dark clouds loom in the distance. The storm
passed ahead of Leroy and I, although a chilly wind follows in its wake, stirring up
the earthy scents of the forest to greet us when we arrive at the Resort. Fall
temperatures for the Perrysville- Loudonville area in Ohio normally ranges in the
upper 50s at night. In the winter when guests visit the Mohican Memorial State Forest
adjacent to the park to cruise the snowy trails on their snowmobiles temperatures drop
to a high 20 degrees.A bit tired, we can’t resist slipping into our jackets and taking a brisk ....
