Ask Sweden fans what's their favourite spot in Sweden and most will say there are too many to mention. On one thing they will agree: besides the beautiful capital Stockholm, the country’s main attraction is its landscape. But there's more. Sweden is one of Europe's best kept secrets. The country has so much to offer. Besides, it's very affordable nowadays and the climate is much better than most people think. Just to give you an idea what to see I made a top-10 of tourist attractions in Sweden. Here they are - in no particular order. Stockholm Stockholm has it all: unique location, great architecture, historical sights, famous museums, huge parks, a vibrant nightlife, trendy shops – and an archipelago of 24,000 ...

Hiking Guide to Easter Island
Ask me which Pacific island has the most to offer hikers and I'll probably answer Easter Island. Here on an island 11 km wide and 23 km long you'll find nearly a thousand ancient Polynesian statues strewn along a powerfully beautiful coastline or littering the slopes of an extinct volcano. Getting there is easy as Easter Island can be included in the Oneworld Explorer airpass introduced on http://www.southpacific.org/air.html , and a fine selection of inexpensive places to stay and eat await you.

Tips Before You Go On Vacation
Summer is in full swing and you are about to take that well-earned vacation. The kids are impatient to get the show on the road and you have a million things to do before you leave. Here are a few things to do before you go ...

Camping With Your Dog
With some planning and forethought traveling with your dog can be safe and rewarding. Plan each nights stop ahead of time. Many large motel chains accept dogs, but not all. There is nothing more frustrating than arriving at your hotel, after a long drive, to find out they do not allow dogs. ...

The Singapore Taxi
Fast, easy and efficient could describe life in Singapore. You don’t stroll along the streets in a world of your own with time to spare and you definitely do not walk when a taxi is waiting nearby. Life in Singapore is geared towards the making of money and any spare moment given is put to that task. So if one should need to get to work or get to the office, go shopping or attend the cinema (because the children insist on it) then transport is essential. ...

Discover the Llyn Peninsula
Stretching from the peak of Snowdon to Bardsey Island (or Ynys Enlli - the Island of the Tides), the Llyn Peninsula is a unique and beautiful part of North Wales, renown for its natural charm and mild climate. ...

Mr Jefferson’s Land – Keswick Hall Resort
Stand on the front lawn of Monticello on a misty autumn morning and it’s not hard to see why Thomas Jefferson was so drawn to this beautiful corner of Virginia at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’ve visited Charlottesville, home of our third president, several times over the years and never tire of the countryside that seems untouched by the passage of time. But I also enjoy the sophistication that accompanies a university town (Charlottesville is home to the University of Virginia), with its restaurants, boutiques, bookstores, and increasingly, a number of well-regarded wineries. There are any number of choices for lodging in Charlottesville, from bed and breakfasts to modern motels and hotels. On my last visit, however, I decided to spend a few days being pampered at the beautiful Keswick Hall, close to downtown Charlottesville and just a few minutes’ drive from Monticello...

Boston’s Omni Parker House Hotel
Founded by Henry D. Parker in 1855, the Omni Parker House (then known as simply The Parker House) has been a Boston resident for over 150 years, located at the junction of Tremont and School Streets, and one of the oldest of Boston's elegant inns. and the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States. It was here that the brightest lights of America's Golden Age of Literature—writers like Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, and Longfellow, regularly met for conversation in the legendary nineteenth century Saturday Club. Baseball greats like Babe Ruth and Ted Williams wined, dined, and unwound at the Parker House. And it was here too, where generations of local and national politicians, including Ulysses S. Grant, James Michael Curley (Boston's Mayor of the poor), Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and William Jefferson Clinton, assembled for private meetings, press conferences, and power breakfasts. The Omni Parker House is close to Boston's Theater District, and it has played an important role for thespians. Many of the finest actors from the nineteenth century made the hotel their home away from home, including Charlotte Cushman, Sarah Bernhardt, Edwin Booth, brother of the matinee-idol, John Wilkes Booth, who was seen pistol...

San Francisco’s Monaco Hotel – A Bay City Luxury Retreat
When you check in at the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco, it's like boarding an intimate cruise ship of the early 1900s and stepping back to the heady days of Hemingway and Christie. Get a good look at the registration desk — it's built to look like an ocean steamer trunk. Then take a quick stroll to the right, past the elevators into the elegant sitting room. Fanciful furnishings, high-backed sofas, and a crackling fire all make for intimate spaces for private conversations. Join your fellow guests in the other sitting room just past the old marble grand staircase for wine and cheese in the afternoons. There you can have your tarot cards read and get a neck and back massage. The decorations evoke the days of elegant travel. The art deco flavor and high ceilings made us feel like we were giant pieces in a grand Monopoly game. We loved the décor of our room — French, fun, and boy-oh-boy were the fabrics expensive and fine. So nice, in fact, that if you smoke in your room, the hotel charges an extra $250 cleaning charge. Like all San Francisco hotels built at this time, the Hotel Monaco has smaller rooms than you might expect from a modern luxury hotel. But don’t be fooled; this room makes the most of the space — a period armoir holds the TV and...

The Best Age For a Disney Vacation
Grappling with the idea of taking the kids on a Disney vacation? Are you not sure if they are too young and will just be overwhelmed or too old and will be bored? Well, I will let you in on a secret; the best age to take the kids on Disney Vacation is............whatever age they happen to be! We first took our son when he was two and he loved it as did our neighbour’s teenagers, but the trip will be smoother if you follow a few simple guidelines: Keep their ages foremost in mind…. Choose rides and activities that are age appropriate, your toddler will not appreciate the Tower of Terror and your teenagers will want to pluck out their fingernails on It’s a Small World. If you are traveling with children of wide age ranges, then a compromise will be in ...

Rockland Maine’s Old Granite Inn
Every year in an Outside Magazine readers' poll, Rockland, Maine ranks among the top 100 best small towns to live in. This is the town where the then controversial 1957 Lana Turner soap opera flick, Peyton Place, was filmed — back when the most dangerous thing in a small town was . . . gossip! The producers wanted to give small, hometown America a risqué shock that today is a comical celluloid version of homespun Americana, a mild comparison to what is on the Internet today. Maine joins only one other state in the lower 48, the only state to do so. It is the only state with a single syllable. Life in Maine is a simple life, not many complexities. Rockland has not changed much since the '50s. I guess that is why the PP producers chose it for their mighty cult genre. I was sitting in a local café one fine summer day, gazing upon the black and white photos on the wall of a bygone era of the historic Main Street. There used to be an electric trolley line down the main drag, and the gossip is they are bringing it back. I can see Peyton Place in the frozen-in-time snapshots. Rockland is still a great place to live. Main Street is now on the National Register of Historic Places, with most of the old brick buildings housing ice cream shops, bookstores, cafés and bars, museums and art galleries. Rockland is a wonderful place to visit in the summer — just for all those farm ...

San Francisco’s Square Deal – The Handlery Hotel
San Francisco is a city of unique landmarks: the Golden Gate Bridge , Alcatraz , Lombard Street, former mayor Willie Brown — the list goes on. Take one look around and you know you could be nowhere else in the world. Think of San Francisco ’s hilly streets and you’ll think of cable cars. There’s no more picturesque way to travel in this city, and if your hotel happens to be right by one of the three cable car lines, that’s a big plus. The Handlery Union Square Hotel (351 Geary Street) is a classy European-styled property in the heart of downtown San Francisco. It’s surprisingly affordable, given its elegance and location. Another plus is the hotel’s general manager, who seems a bit of a landmark himself. Jon Handlery greeted me wearing a dark suit instead of a frilly tutu — but only because this wasn’t Halloween. Last October Jon dared to dress as a ballerina for the occasion, according to the delightful lady who checked me in and ordered champagne for my room. That says a lot about the Handlery’s — in a good way, of course. In a world of huge hotel chains, the family has operated independently for 75 years, with hotels here and in San Diego. Jon has served on San Francisco’s Convention and Visitors Bureau since 1997 and ...

Santa Catalina - Island of Dreams
This beautiful island lies just 26 miles across the ocean from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. Yet it might be thousands of miles away. As soon as you step ashore you can feel the pace of life slow perceptibly. Even the name of the main 'town' on the island is evocative - Avalon. The 76 square mile island was originally owned by the Wrigley Family (of chewing gum fame) but over 80% is now owned by The Santa Catalina Island Conservancy. The island's interior is unspoilt and protected as a wildlife natural habitat. There are very few cars on the island - transport is mainly by bike or electric golf cart(!). But you can easily explore Avalon on foot, and the only way to enjoy the shops, bars and restaurants along The Crescent...

Are you a Traveler?
I’m making an assumption that at want point in your life you’ve been a tourist. You’ve carried a map, a camera, maybe even had a tour guide. You’ve traveled to different destinations, relaxed on remote beaches, climbed stairs in buildings you see on television. You’ve done all of these things but some how when you get arrive home, all your left with is a short memory, and a few photographs. Vacations are nice every once in a while, but it doesn’t make sense to me why we will travel thousands of miles to sit in hotel rooms and watch movies, or lie on a pool deck and catch some rays. These are all things that we can do where we are from, I want you ...

Celebrate at the Beach – Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point
Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, in Dana Point, California, is a place to celebrate life! I know because I took my daughter there on her annual birthday outing. We spent three glorious days and nights at the most picturesque spot on the Southern California coastline. The resort’s red-roofed, Victorian-style architecture overlooks the cliffs above the bay. With captivating views of the Pacific Ocean and sprawling Gatsby-esque lawns, I felt like we were in the movie “Somewhere in Time.” Even the winding driveway up to the resort was romantically lit with street lanterns. The shiny wooden lacquered decor was inviting ...

Los Angeles’s Academy Award Winner – Millennium Biltmore Hotel
The historic Millennium Biltmore hotel in Los Angeles has seen in its 80 years such visitors as presidents, kings and queens, and Hollywood celebrities. The hotel opened in 1923, and was for many years the home of the Academy Awards, honoring those that were the best in newest technology of the time — movies. The Millennium Biltmore is more like a Romanesque museum than a hotel, located in the heart of the business and financial district. If it were a wax museum, there would be likenesses of many of its famous guests, such as Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, John F. Kennedy, Harry Truman, Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, The Duke of Kent, Eleanor Roosevelt, Howard Hughes, J. Paul Getty, John Wayne, Casey Stengel, Barbara Streisand, Placido Domingo, and the Beatles...
